Learn about your second brain 🧠

Hello : ) I’m glad you’re here! Healthy and alive, ready to start to start a new journey? Bc I am! So I’ve been doing my homework on how important it is to keep a good brain health.
YOUR SECOND BRAIN 🧠 FACTS

The gut has its own nervous system ,the gut contains the enteric nervous system (ENS),with 100 million neurons — more than in your spinal cord!
It can operate independently of the brain but communicates closely with it.

The gut brain Axis

Theres two way communication system between your gut and your brain via the vagus nerve and chemical messengers (like neurotransmitters and hormones).

Produces neurotransmitters

About 90%-95% of serotonin (the “feel good” chemical) is made in the gut.

Gut microbes also help produce dopamine, GABA, and acetylcholine, affecting your mood, anxiety, and focus.

Gut Health Affects Mental Health

Poor gut health is linked to depression, anxiety, brain fog, and even neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

Microbiome Power
Your gut hosts trillions of microbes (bacteria, fungi, viruses) that support digestion, immunity, and even skin and hormone health.

Everyone has a unique gut microbiome, like a fingerprint.

Leaky Gut & Inflammation
When the gut lining is compromised (leaky gut), it can allow toxins and bacteria into the bloodstream, triggering inflammation and autoimmune responses.

Immune System HQ
Around 70–80% of the body’s immune cells are in the gut, making it a key defense line against illness.

Food Impacts Brain Function
Diets rich in fiber, fermented foods, and polyphenols boost gut health, which supports better mood, memory, and focus

Probiotics & Prebiotics Help

Probiotics are good bacteria (found in yogurt, kimchi, kefir).

Prebiotics are fibers that feed them (found in garlic, onions, bananas, oats).

Stress Harms Gut Function

Chronic stress can disrupt the gut microbiome, slow digestion, and cause IBS, ulcers, or constipation.

🧠 Spiritual/Emotional Side

Many ancient cultures believed the gut holds intuition or “gut feelings.”

In holistic healing, emotions like fear, grief, or trauma are said to be “stored” in the gut and can manifest physically.
